From August 4 to 6, 2024, Associate professor Yibai Wang from the JLPP research group led four students to participate in the 19th China Electric Propulsion Conference held in Wuhai. Associate professor Yibai Wang reported on the topic of “Study on the Mass/Energy Transport Process of Electric Propulsion Magnetic Nozzle” at the conference. Graduate students Yuzhe Sun, Fangjun Chen, Zhixiong Li and Nanyi Chen gave separate reports at the sub-venues.
Conference Report
On the morning of August 5, Associate professor Yibai Wang delivered a keynote speech entitled “Research on the Mass/Energy Transport Process of Electric Propulsion Magnetic Nozzles”, which attracted wide attention from the participants. Our team has been deeply engaged in the field of magnetic nozzle research for ten years and has accumulated profound experience and rich professional knowledge. In this report, Associate professor Yibai Wang elaborated on the acceleration mechanism of plasma in magnetic nozzles, covering all aspects from theoretical analysis to experimental verification. During the report, Wang demonstrated the latest research results of the team through specific experimental data and theoretical models. These results not only demonstrated the cutting-edge progress of magnetic nozzle technology, but also pointed out the direction for future development. After the report, peer experts and students at the meeting expressed great interest in the content of the report, and carried out in-depth discussions and exchanges, further promoting academic cooperation and technological innovation in this field.

Session Report
On the morning of August 6, this session set up nine sub-venue reports to cover various topics in the field of electric propulsion research. Each sub-venue provides an opportunity for scholars to have in-depth discussions and exchanges, and to showcase the latest research results. Doctoral student Yuzhe Sun reported on the topic of “Experimental Study on Current Distribution of AF-MPDT” in the sub-venue of special electric propulsion testing and diagnostic technology, and won the excellent paper award of the sub-venue. The report studied the electromagnetic acceleration mechanism of the additional field magnetic plasma thruster, and conducted experimental analysis of the current distribution in the plume of AF-MPDT, which was unanimously recognized by the experts in the sub-venue.

Master student Zhixiong Li gave a report titled “Measurement of Hall Thruster Plume Divergence Angle and Thrust Vector Eccentricity” in the special electric propulsion test and diagnosis technology session. The HET-80B Hall thruster plume was diagnosed in three dimensions using a linear Faraday probe array, and the plume divergence angle at different axial positions and the thrust vector eccentricity of the thruster were obtained by measuring the ion current density.

Master student Fangjun Chen gave a report titled “Research on the Design of High-Frequency Plasma Pressure Probes” in the special electric propulsion testing and diagnostic technology session. A pressure probe for measuring plasma dynamic pressure was designed using piezoelectric ceramics as components, and the existing probe structure was modified through methods such as force-sensitive element sensitivity amplification design, electromagnetic shielding protection, and high-speed charged east current shielding. Master student Nanyi Chen gave a report titled “The Impact of Additional Magnetic Field Configuration on the Performance of Micro Radio Frequency Ion Thrusters” in the special session on micro-power electric propulsion technology. This report proposes the impact of the performance improvement of the miniature full radio frequency ion thruster system through additional magnetic fields, and analyzes the changes in beam size and electrical efficiency under two different magnetic field configurations.
Prospect
Finally, through this electric propulsion conference, Associate professor Yibai Wang of JLPP research group presented the work results of JLPP group in the field of magnetic nozzle research to peer experts. Four students learned about the latest work progress in various aspects of the domestic electric propulsion field, and also gained a valuable opportunity to exchange academic ideas with peers and gain recognition from their peers. JLPP group sincerely thank the organizers and the organizers for their efforts and hard work in hosting this electric propulsion conference, and look forward to seeing my peers at the next conference.
